Medical Mycology for Biomedical Scientists

 

Aims:

To provide formal training in mycology relevant to biomedical scientists working in a routine microbiology environment

 

Length of course:

2 days (Attendance on both days is required)

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at HCPC registered biomedical scientists who would like some formal training in mycology.  No prior mycology experience is required.

 

Group size:

Typically 6-10 delegates

 

Course Content:

  • Identification of dermatophytes, dermatophyte look-alikes and other causes of superficial infections
  • Setting up superficial samples, microscopy and reporting of results
  • Identification of common moulds, including Aspergillus
  • Identification of a range of unusual clinically relevant moulds

 

Course Format:

Most of the course will be delivered as hands-on practical sessions, with some of the topics covered as demonstrations or small group sessions using pre-prepared samples.  There will be an opportunity at the end of the course to attempt the identification of “unknown” fungal cultures.

 

Cost:

The 2 day course costs £372 (including VAT)  and includes course materials and drinks during the day, but it does not include lunch.
